CHARCOAL POSE FIGURE
I used to draw with charcoal chalk before with my inspiration a pumpkin in A2 drawing paper. It was easy to manage the pressure and the area to shade because it's in big scale. At the same time, really scared to use charcoal as it make the drawing 'burnt' as there are no shading or value towards it.
From my experience using this method, i went to the stationary store to buy a charcoal pencil so that i can point out the outline easily and careful from to ruin my drawing. I found out that the charcoal pencil have 3 different level, just like the carbon pencil. It have hard, medium and soft level.
I do some research for this level while completing my drawing project and i have the knowledge how to use it and which level suit the best for the job. The 'hard' level, i used it for the outline drawing as the other charcoal can shade on it (it's like a candle on a watercolour painting). After that, there is the 'medium' level where i used it to shade the tone down. The texture is like a normal 2B pencil so it's easy to know where to shade dark or light. Lastly, the 'soft' level, it really good for blending and darken the area part and make it smooth texture.
So here is my project 1 of a pose figure that was selected from my lecturer.
It's a good thing that i choose this picture because it's already in greyscale picture and make it easy to know what value shading should i make at the area to shade. Here is the final drawing from me. When i draw the pose figure, it's going well then the shading part for the bottom also give the result that i want. But when it come to the facial part, i'm dead. It's hard for me to draw the detail since it's in a small scale and using a bold charcoal pencil point so i can't get the right proportion for the face as i am scared if the drawing get 'burnt'.
